Ardnamurchan Lighthouse

We visited the westernmost point of mainland Britain on the 30th October.  The lighthouse was rather imposing - and designed by Robert L. Stevenson's father of all people, with Egyptian design features. The foghorn used to need three compressors to power it before mains electricity arrived. The views of Muck, Rhum, Eigg, and Skye in the distance from the balcony were great - but we were a
bit wind-blasted!The old lights have been replaced by LED lights powered by car batteries (Halford's own-brand) .. the new main LED lights will be visible up to 36 miles out to sea and will still be powered by batteries - all remotely controlled and monitored from a basement in Edinburgh apparently.
